Katipatch Catchup Issue 12 - 7th December 2006

Dear Patchworkers,

The year is almost over and with summer (supposedly) coming, our minds turn to Christmas and holidays, with probably very little time for patchwork and quilting. However, before you put your needle or machine out of your mind, we have some tempters for you! All of this month we have Christmas specials – lots of fabrics slashed in price to $10/m, so stock up for backings etc. All Fat Quarters are $5 each. Even if this doesn’t tempt you, please join us for some cake during the week 18th – 22nd. Remember also that we have Gift Vouchers which slip very easily into stockings, large or small!

On the 1st of Feb we turn 1, so we will be having birthday celebrations for the whole of that week too, culminating with a “Show & Tell” of anything made in our classes over the last year. More details will follow in our next newsletter, so just bear that in mind.

Don’t forget to be gathering things for our Trash & Treasure Day on Sat 17th Feb. Book a table (or a half table if you don’t have much to sell) and there is no restriction as to what it is, as long as it fits into the craft category! Please let your friends know about this day, so they can come and browse. We will also be advertising in the local press.

We will not be running any classes during January, but have so far set dates for the following:

"     Beginners Sampler Quilt    Tuesdays  13th Feb – 17th April   9.30 – 11.30am  $120 plus requirements
You will learn a different technique each week as you make a block, then the art of joining it all together to make a single bed quilt.

We will also run an evening Beginners class if there is enough interest.

"     Pukeko in Stained Glass   Thurs 15th Feb   9.30am – 3.30pm  $45 plus requirements - includes lunch
By using the “stained glass” method you will make this wallhanging of our local icon.

"     Carol’s Kete   Thurs 15th March   9.30am – 3.30pm   $45 plus requirements - includes lunch
Make a bag modelled on the traditional woven kete.

" Finishing Touch   Thurs 15th April   9.30am – 3.30pm   $65 plus a kit - includes lunch
Meryl Caudwell will teach you how to bind your quilts like an expert. This class was very popular this year, so we are thrilled that Meryl has agreed to return. She will be teaching the same subject at Symposium in January.

" Fishes   Sat/Sun 28th & 29th April   9.30am – 3.30pm   $110 plus requirements - includes lunch both days
Mary Transom is always a popular teacher and this class will be no exception. Her fishes will make a gorgeous wallhanging. We look forward to having Mary back with us.

This is just a sampling of what is to come over the next 12 months. Let us know if there is something in particular you would like to learn and we will do our best to make it happen!

In the meantime, this will be our last Catchup for 2006, so we would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy, safe and memorable season of goodwill, love, and peace in your heart.

The shop will be closed from Sat 23rd Dec and reopening on Mon 8th Jan.

The best gift is a hug ‘cos every size fits and exchanges are welcome.

Altogether patchwork
