Carol recently spent some time at the Australasian Quilt Convention in Melbourne, where she was blown away by the stunning quilts hanging on display, and proud to see some of our NZ quality work mixing very well alongside. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet up with some of the merchants and build relationships (and add to the stash!), and consequently we have some exciting things in the pipeline. Watch this space!
We now stock Quick Patchwork Papers from Julie Wallace. If you are making a quilt with a large number of 1½”, 2” or 3” triangles, this is the easy way to do it. Ask us to show you how they work. $11.60 for a roll of 10 sheets. We also have Julie’s latest book in stock (Vol 3), which at $33.30 and with 15 quilt patterns is great value for money. Many of the patterns use the Patchwork Papers.
Vliesofix has been causing us (and many of you) huge headaches over the last few months. We are assured this is a world-wide problem and the manufacturers are doing their best to resolve the issues. In the meantime we are recommending customers buy Steam-a-Seam Lite instead. This product is 60cm wide and at $12/m is better value than Steam-a-Seam 2.
We have received lots of beautiful new batiks recently, so for those of you who use them for appliqué or piecing, be sure to check them out next time you’re in the shop.
Charmers are our 4” squares which get posted out to you. We cut a square from every new fabric that comes into the store. For $30 you receive 4 postings of 25 fabrics. Let us know if you’d like to be added to the list of recipients. info@katipatch.co.nz

The Huskystar C20 normally $949 is on still special at $799. This machine has the alphabet as well as the patchworking features on the C10. This is an excellent little machine for carrying to classes.
We are considering running a Juniors Class for 2 hours in the morning on the first Saturday of the month. The cost will be $10 per class. Each session would produce a different project. Please let us know if you have someone who would be interested in attending this. The class will only go ahead if we receive enough interest.
Classes coming up soon:
- Dyeing with Judi Wine. One day workshop Thursday 12 th April. Judi is an expert in this field and during this fun day will teach you how to crackle dye, gradation dye, four season dyeing and surface dyeing for getting the exact colour you need for your latest quilt. Judi supplies all fabric, chemicals and dye. $50 includes lunch.
- Finishing Touch – Binding your Quilts with Meryl Caudwell. One day workshop Thursday 26 th April. This class filled very quickly when we ran it last year. Meryl is an experienced tutor, including teaching at Symposium. You will learn various ways to bind your masterpieces including French Binding, Mitred, Straight corners, Curved,
Scalloped, Prairie Points and several variations of these. $65 includes lunch.
- Fishes with Mary Transom. Two day workshop Sat/Sun 28 th/29 th April. Mary is another Symposium tutor, and her classes are always popular. You will create your own underwater scene with Mary’s expert guidance. See the sample in the shop. $110 includes lunch both days.
- Bordering on the Comical with Natalie Murdoch . Two day workshop Tues/Wed 8 th/9 th May. Yet another tutor from this year’s Symposium, you will have lots of laughs with Natalie, using your scraps to make a quilt of your own choice - we have the 3 choices hanging in store. $110 includes lunch both days.
- Kalbarri Bag One day workshop Wed 16 th May. This bag is great for a new Mum, a weekend away or as a general carryall for classes (see the attached photo). Some prework to bring to the class. $45 includes lunch.
- Dragonflywith Jacqui Karl. We are excited about having Jacqui coming to teach, so we have booked her for two one day workshops. This first is on Sat 9 th June. The dragonfly absolutely sparkles with Jacqui’s techniques, using Angelina fibres, paints, beads and paua. $65 includes lunch. See the attached photo.
- Painted Landscapes with Jacqui Karl. The second workshop is on Sun 10 th June. Starting with a plain white piece of fabric, you will paint, machine stitch and hand embroider to create your own landscape. Jacqui promises stunning results. $65 includes lunch. See the attached photo.
