Katipatch Catchup Issue 16 - 18th April 2007

The winter chill is in the air and it reminds us that it won’t be long before we need another quilt on the bed! Sometimes that’s all we need to motivate us into getting one or two of those UFOs finished.  Take a look at our class list if you’re looking for even more inspiration – there’s sure to be something that will catch your eye. We have the latest NZ Quilter in store now and some of the magnificent creations in there will certainly help to get you in the mood!

Our Charmers packs are a great way to get you started on a quilt. As new fabrics arrive in the shop we cut off 4” squares which get mailed out to you in lots of 25. For $30 you receive 4 mailings – a total of 100 x 4” squares. Phone us on (07) 549 5900 or e-mail info@katipatch.co.nz if you would like to join the mailing list.

We all find at some stage we have collected magazines, craft books and fabrics we no longer need. We have perhaps made something out of the magazine, but kept it because it’s too good to just throw away. Or we have changed direction in our creativity and some of the fabric collection no longer suits our style. We thought it would be a great idea to collect those ‘throwaways’ here at Katipatch and allow people to buy them for $2, the proceeds of which will be given to the Neurological Foundation.

Imagine not imagining, reaching for a thought that eludes you, or wanting to dance but your feet won’t do your bidding. Stroke, Alzheimer’s’ disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy are just some of the brain disorders that steal our ability to sew patchwork, write, dance, and recall the precious memories of our lives. It is estimated one in five New Zealanders will suffer from a brain disorder in their lifetime, and these can be devastating, not just on the sufferer but on their families and caregivers. Most of us will know someone who has been afflicted by one of these problems. The Neurological Foundation of New Zealand is an independent body that raises money to support neurological research and education in New Zealand. The Foundation is funded by individual New Zealanders, with more than 95 per cent of contributions coming from donations and bequests. For more information take a look at the website  Neurological Foundation of New Zealand

This collection will be ongoing, and we’ll keep you up to date with how much is raised. So if you have any of the above items you are willing to donate, please drop them off and we will deal with the rest. Make sure you also take a look at what’s offering when you come into the shop – we may just have collected the answer to your prayers and for $2 it’s yours!
