About Us > Katipatch Catchup > Issue 17
Hello patchworkers, We had a light frost in Katikati this morning – a sure sign that winter is on its way. Warm snugly quilts are the perfect comforter in this cooler weather, so if you ever needed an excuse to make a quilt, bring it on! Our sale of second-hand magazines etc for the Neurological Foundation has been a huge success. We have raised $94 so far, and still have plenty more books arriving all the time, so this tally will keep rising. We have decided to add “Books for Blokes” to the mix for the males who come into our shop. They have a separate box so that they don’t have to rifle through the ones they’d rather not look at! So if your man has a few magazines lying around that he no longer wants (no “girlie” mags, please!), we’d love to move them on to someone else for you; same deal for the buyer - $2 a magazine for the Neurological Foundation http://www.neurological.org.nz/ We have a couple of new products in the shop that you should know about. The first is our Relish Jars. We all relish fabrics – for some of us that’s the reason why we make quilts, just because we love the stuff! The Relish jars have 10 x 4” strips (total of 1m) of shades of one colour, plus a recipe for the relish all in a lovely preserving jar. We have a range of 10 relishes including corn, blueberry, mushroom, aubergine and beetroot. These would make a great gift for a patchworking friend. The second new product is our Inchworms. These are rolls of fabric from 4” – 7” across the width. So you can buy maybe a 5 Inchworm or a 6 Inchworm. If it’s just one strip of something you require then take a look through the basket; we may just have the perfect worm for you! Something else we have just received is the new-to-the-market Husqvarna Viking Sapphire machine, with a 10” free arm! The presser foot is lifted by an exclusive sensor system – no need for a presser foot lever or knee lift on this machine, so it’s perfect for patchworking, appliqué and quilting. Come in to the store to view or have a try. If you have an older Husqvarna or Elna machine, please talk to us if you are wanting a new accessory. We are selling two new Kiwiana kits. First is a gorgeous wallhanging which comes in three border colours – green (as in the picture attached), gold or red. Everything you need to make the hanging is included in the kit. We also have a Kiwiana bag kit with a range of different fabrics in each kit. Phone 07 549 5900 or e-mail info@katipatch.co.nz if you are interested in purchasing one of these kits. Some other products we stock: tea-dyed quilters muslin (230cm wide), Jumping fish for those of you who love dyeing, Gigly cloth for appliqué, template plastic, and Quick Patchwork Papers for perfect points. Don’t forget that we sharpen your 45mm or 60mm rotary cutter blades. As long as the blade isn’t damaged, for $3 we can bring the sharpness back to its original cutting quality. Also, please let us know if there is something you would particularly like to learn and we’ll see if we can arrange a tutor. You can’t change the wind to suit your sails but you can change your sails to suit the wind. (We thought this was very appropriate with NZ doing so well in the Louis Vuitton Cup) Altogether patchwork Carol & Cindy |
