Katipatch Catchup Issue 21 - 28th September 2007

Dear Patchworkers,

Daylight saving starting this weekend reminds us that summer is on its way. The thought of picnics, walks in the park and long summer days is always appealing after such a wet and miserable winter.

Our annual “Hanging of the Quilts” begins next Tuesday 2nd October and runs from 10am – 4pm daily till Saturday 6th October. Be sure to call in to see the wonderful array of work by local quilters hanging in our classroom and under the verandah. The gold coin entry will be added to our funds for the Neurological Foundation.

We have another BOM coming up. Classic Candlewick will be a 16” square block each month for 12 months. By adding 3” sashings and 10” borders it would be a double/queen size quilt, or by adding a medallion in the centre it would be a king size. See the attached picture. Each month you receive a full size pattern, photo, notes and fabric, plus all the thread in the first month. Cost is $25 + p&p for month one, then $15 + p&p each month. Register your interest now.

New in the shop are small, flexible bobbin holders which hold 30 bobbins – great for taking to classes. These are good value at $4.40.

The latest edition of the NZ Quilter has arrived with photos of some of the beautiful NANZQ Elemental Challenge quilts. This magazine is always a good read.

New Christmas fabrics are arriving in the shop regularly, reminding us that Christmas will be here before we know it.

We also have a great new array of patterns for cot, children’s and wall quilts as well as more Whiskers and Wings patterns, so check these out next time you’re in.

Classes coming up:

  1. "   The Sparkle Sisters with Philippa Morris of Whiskers and Wings. We just love having Philippa running classes for us a couple of times each year and these cute little angels will add a special charm to your Christmas décor.  9.30am – 3.30pm  Wed 31st October  $70 plus requirements, includes lunch.
  2. "   Quilters Quarters  This is another of our famous mystery weekends planned for Fri night/Sat/Sun 2 – 4 November. You won’t know where you’re going or what you’re making, but you can be assured of a fantastic time, excellent food and great company! Contact us now to register – only one space left! Your quilt top without borders will measure 47” x 60”.  $250 covers the weekend and fabric.
  3. "   Storm at Sea with Meryl Caudwell.  A quilt made with this complicated-looking block has amazing movement. Meryl normally teaches this as a miniature, but she will be doing this as a standard block especially for us. Tues 6th November  9.30am – 3.30pm $70 plus requirements, includes lunch.
  4. "   Jelly Day  You will make a mystery quilt with your choice of one of the very popular Jelly Rolls. Come along for a day of fun and jelly, and a 78” square quilt top well underway. 9.30am – approx 4pm  Sat 10th November   $95 covers the cost of the jelly roll, pattern and food. Background fabric will be required.
  5. "   Juniors class runs usually on the first Sat of each month from 9.30 – 11.30am. For the junior in your house from age 9 upwards we teach all sorts of techniques for $10 per lesson, plus the cost of a small kit.
  6. "   Wednesday Workshops  2-hr project-based classes each fortnight teaching a variety of different patchwork and machine techniques, with input from the participants as to just what they would like to learn.   1 – 3pm once fortnightly   $30 per term.  Register now for Term 4 which will focus on Christmas. Dates: 10th and 24th October, 7th and 21st November and 5th December.

Call us on 07 549 5900 or send us an e-mail info@katipatch.co.nz if you would like to join any of these workshops or would like a photo or more information. Also, please let us know if there is something you would particularly like to learn and we’ll see if we can arrange a tutor.

People who get bored very easily are usually very boring people.
