Katipatch Catchup Issue 22 - 3rd November 2007

Dear Patchworkers,

Recently we’ve had lots of ladies asking if they’d missed a Catchup, and when we looked to see when the last one went out we were surprised to see it had been over a month ago! We have been very busy in this last month, which is all good, but for those looking out for our updates, I guess that has left you a little in the dark! It’s wonderful that so many of you look forward to receiving our news.

The response to our annual “Hanging of the Quilts” was amazing! We raised $375 for the Neurological Foundation, $100 of which was from Barbara Hilford’s lovely wallhanging which we raffled, and was won by Anne Bowles of Katikati. As well as that we have collected $215 from our on-going magazine sales over the last couple of months. With your contributions we are helping to make a difference. Well done!

Last week we had the delightful Philippa Morris of Whisker and Wings over from Australia to run her very successful Sparkle Sisters class and she left us more of her patterns – some older, popular ones as well as some new, so check these out when you’re next in the shop.

We are still taking registrations for our three Block of the Month programmes - Butterfly Garden, The Joy of Life and Classic Candlewick (see attachments) are all proving extremely popular. We customize these programmes to suit you – it’s up to you to let us know when you’re ready for each block, so there is no pressure involved, time-wise or financially. Butterfly Garden is a beautiful mix of piecing and appliqué in each block, the size of which varies over each of the 12 months. All the piecing is pre-cut, meaning you only have to sew it together. The Joy of Life is also pre-cut, but the appliqué is done over the equal-sized 9 pieced blocks. Both originals of these quilts had the appliqué done by hand, however, both our shop samples are done by machine, so it is entirely your choice on how you do it. Classic Candlewick is 12 original 16” blocks with very explicit notes for the stitching which can easily be attempted by a beginner, so don’t be put off if you’ve never done candlewicking or embroidery before. We stock all of the extra requirements for doing this – hoops, needles, thimbles and finger guards, and can give any help required if necessary. Contact us if you would like to start any of these BOM programmes.

Jelly Day next Sat 10th November 9.30am – approx 4pm will be limited to 12 people.  You will make a mystery quilt with your choice of one of the very popular Jelly Rolls, which are 2½m of a full range of fabric cut into 2½”strips. Come along for a day of fun and jelly, and a 78” square quilt top well underway. $98 covers the cost of the jelly roll, pattern, food and fun. Background fabric will be required. Call us on 549 5900 or e-mail info@katipatch.co.nz if you wish to register.

Christmas is looming really fast (sorry to be the bearer of such tidings!) so we will not run any more classes as such until next year. However, we will still have our Juniors Class which runs usually on the first Sat of each month from 9.30 – 11.30am. For the junior in your house from age 9 upwards we teach all sorts of techniques for $10 per lesson, plus the cost of a small kit. The final one for this year will be Dec 8th. If you have someone you know who would be interested in attending, just let us know.

As usual, please let us know if there is something you would particularly like to learn and we’ll see if we can arrange a tutor.

Whoever said money can’t buy happiness didn’t know where to shop!
