Katipatch Catchup Issue 26 - 12th March 2008

Dear Patchworkers,

March brings with it wonderful warm, sunny days, with slightly cooler nights (making it easier to sleep) – it’s certainly a lovely time of the year. The evenings are closing in which makes us realise that winter is on its way, so it’s time to complete some of those cosy quilts to wrap around knees or cover the beds.

New in the shop is iron-on tearaway, which we have been trying to hunt down for some time now. It is the perfect solution for any machine embroidery projects – simply ironed on the back (saves getting those pins in the way while you stitch), then once completed just tear it away. At only $5 per metre, it makes the difference between a good job and a great job.

Also new are Sewline fabric mechanical marking pencils, which have leads formulated to give a clear fine line on fabric. No more messy chalk or lines you can't remove. No chemicals to damage your fabrics. Lines are easily removed by an attached eraser or by dabbing with a damp cloth or washing. They are comfortable to use and refills of leads and erasers are available. There are currently two colour choices - green for light fabrics and white for dark. Suitable for use on most fabrics.

Sewline have also introduced a fabric glue pen - a clever glue stick means the end of sewing around pins!  Water-soluble blue glue that dries clear. A quick, convenient way to hold fabrics for sewing. Great for quilting and appliqué. Once glued, the fabric pieces can be pulled apart so not to worry if they are misplaced or need to be adjusted. Refills available.

The Sapphire 830 from Husqvarna Viking is a user-friendly, computerized sewing machine. All stitch selections are made with the touch of a finger and shown in the very bright, well-lit Infodisplay. You will also experience all the joy of sewing with the longest free arm in the industry and the largest extended sewing surface. This machine has 105 wonderful stitches, 3 alphabets and 10 permanent memories. The special price for March is $2,699. Come and try it out for yourself.
