Katipatch Catchup Issue 28 - 28th May 2008

Hello ladies,

The onset of winter means gloves, jackets and colds, but also those glorious leaves in their wonderful golden hues, fires and more time in the evenings for stitching.

Our Sisters Friendship Blocks was so popular last year that we are running it again. Please see the attached rules and let us know if you would like to join the fun.  All blocks will need to be returned to us by 16th September. Register by phone (07) 549 5900 or email info@katipatch.co.nz

Don’t forget our challenge. In conjunction with the Katikati Open Air Arts Festival we hold our annual “Hanging of the Quilts”.  Along with this we are running a challenge titled “A Journey” (the theme for this year’s festival) for which we have selected a NZ Batik fabric in 4 different colourways. Please ask us to send you the rules if you are interested, and register now.

New in store are Starta Quilt Kits, the first of which is “Catherine” (see attached picture). These kits can be made up as a wallhanging, a table runner, or the medallion for the centre of a larger quilt. They include the pattern and all fabrics to make the top, and come in two colourways, royal purple as in the picture, or fiery yellow.

We now have the new Fiskars DiamaEdge general purpose scissors with an exclusive ultra-hard coating that helps the blade edges stay sharp for a consistent cutting performance. They have ergonomic handles and an adjustable screw for optimum blade tension.

New NZ fabrics are coming in all the time – latest ones are Playing Possum, Spaced Paua, Fern Forest, Merinos and Sheepish with a black background. At $20/m, these are good value. This is a popular choice for quiltmaking these days.

Classes coming up:

  1. "   Juniors Class  usually on the first or second Sat of each month from 9.30 – 11.30am. For the junior in your house from age 9 upwards we teach all sorts of techniques for $10 per lesson, plus the cost of a small kit. If you know a little person who might be interested in joining the fun, the next session is 7th June.
  2. "   Meshwork with Puddle   Our recent demonstration of Clover products was extremely popular when Puddle visited recently, and many of those who attended requested a class, so we have invited her back to run this workshop on meshwork (see attached photo).  We also have a couple of other examples in store which show the stunning variety of patterns and ways this technique can be showcased.  Tuesday 10th June 9.30am – 3.30pm  $70 + requirements, includes lunch.
  3. "   Wednesday Workshops  2-hr project-based classes each fortnight with input from the participants as to just what they would like to learn.   1 – 3pm once fortnightly   $30 per term plus requirements. Due to the low cost for these workshops, there are no notes. Register now for Term 3, as Term 2 is underway.
  4. "   Thursday Techniques  2-hr technique-based classes each fortnight with input from the participants as to just what they would like to learn.   1 – 3pm once fortnightly   $50 per term plus requirements. Term 2 is underway but let us know if you would like to join Term 3.
  5. "   Friday Frolics  This is another of our famous mysteries planned for Fri night 11th July.  You won’t know what you’re making, but you can be assured of a fantastic time, excellent food and great company. The evening will begin at 5.30pm and run till you’re too tired to sew! We do the ironing for you – all you have to do is put it together. For anyone out-of-town who would like to join us, we will arrange accommodation at a reasonable cost. All fabric for your quilt will be cut for you, so contact us ASAP for advice on which fabrics would be suitable. $25 for the night, includes refreshments and spot prizes.

Call us on 07 549 5900 or send us an e-mail info@katipatch.co.nz if you would like to join any of these workshops or would like a photo or more information. Also, please let us know if there is something you would particularly like to learn and we’ll see if we can arrange a tutor.
