Katipatch Catchup Issue 3 - 31st March 2006
Hi Quilters,
The leaves on the trees have started to change colour so the need for lots of cuddly quilts must be getting greater. Some of us don’t need an excuse to make another quilt, but if there must be motivation, then winter coming is surely it!
Our first Katipatch Challenge starts on Tuesday 18th April (just after Easter). We are really excited about this, with lots of new fabrics arriving to cater for all the entries! Check out our website around that date to see the rules and fabrics. www.katipatch.co.nz Entries from anywhere in NZ will be welcome, so don’t feel you can’t enter if you don’t live near the shop. Our website is being designed with all of this in mind, so that we can reach you wherever you are. We are planning a display of all the Challenge entries in September with all profits going to charity. They will also be on the website.
We don’t keep all battings and extra-wide backing fabrics in stock but can have them for you at a day’s notice. We have samples of both in the shop, so check out our range for future reference. Please phone if you know what you want and we will have it here for you the next day.
Our stocks of homespun and Kiwiana are increasing, as we have had a great demand for both lines. In store are 30 different homespun colours which will increase even more over time.
Our aim is to offer the complete service to patchworkers, so we would like everyone to know that we have a mechanic to service and repair all makes of machines. Just drop your machine in to us and we’ll take care of it for you. You may even borrow a machine from us in the interim if you can’t be without. Cindy is preparing a class called Making Friends with your Machine where you will learn to use the different features on your domestic machine, regardless of its make and model. If you would be interested in attending this class, please respond by sending a reply to this message. A date will be set once we are sure of the numbers. Maybe you would rather have one-on-one tuition, then Cindy is willing to help you through the difficulties you may be experiencing. Just phone the shop and arrange it.
At 10.30am on Friday 7th April Friday Friends will be having guest speaker, Gordon Cooper, extolling the virtues of using Electric Quilt 5 to design your own quilts. Gordon has enormous experience with computers and software design, so if you are hesitant in this area of technology, this is one day not to be missed. We have already had much interest in this day, so please let us know by reply e-mail if you will be attending. The usual charge of $5.00 for Friday Friends applies.
Classes coming up are Machine Quilting with Carol on Monday 10th April, Landscape with Tricia Dunning on Friday 28th April, Kotuku Embellishment with Dianne Fussell on Sat 6th May, Fabric Imaging and Crazy Patchwork with Peggy White on Friday 19th May and another Beginners Class with Carol starting after Easter. Please let us know if you would like to attend any of these as there are a few places left. There are other classes we are taking names for as well, so check out the website to get the full list.
