About Us > Katipatch Catchup > Issue 4 Hi Patchworkers, Katipatch is 3 months old and we are feeling comfortable with the way we have everything set up, with constant changes of quilts on display in the shop. We hope that each time you visit there will be something new for you to feast your eyes on, and be inspired. We love to see completed works, so please bring your quilts in to show us. We are now able to sharpen the 45mm and 60mm sizes of rotary cutter blades. The cost is $3.00 and we will do it while you wait. A reminder also that we have a scissor sharpening service available on the first Friday of the month. Just bring us your scissors and for only $6 they will become like new again. Our Coffee & Cream Challenge is now underway. Be sure to pick up a copy of the rules and entry form from the shop, or check out the website www.katipatch.co.nz The website is continually being updated (it is definitely a work in progress, just like some quilts!!), so keep checking back for new items. We stock a lovely range of Folk Art paintings by Pat Howie. These would make delightful gifts for Mother’s Day at a very reasonable price. Check these out next time you’re in the shop. All the recent rain is a warning that winter is closer, with less light in the evenings to spend outside, and the garden being too sodden to dig, giving us (possibly) more time to spend sewing. Classes coming up in the near future are sure to keep your mind active as well as your fingers! Friday the 19th May is Peggy White’s Fabric Imaging and Crazy Patch workshop. The one-day class is $55 which includes lunch, and Peggy will show you how to transfer your photo on to fabric using your computer printer, then piecing it into a “heritage-style” block for use as a cushion, or the beginning of a quilt. This class is filling fast and numbers are limited, so if you want to be in, be sure to let us know. On Tuesday 30th May we are running a 2 hr workshop with Tricia Dunning for Mounting your work on a frame. This follows on from her popular Landscape class, but may be of use to others who have a piece already made and want to prepare it for hanging on the wall. Payment of $15 confirms your place in this class. Another Beginners Class with Carol starts on Thursday 18th May – please let us know if you would like to join this class, or you know of someone else who would like to learn the basic techniques of patchwork. Gollies and Dollies is proving to be a popular class; this is on Monday 12th June with Carol Tunnicliff. We can still take a couple more names – let us know if you’d like to make one of these. We will be making up a kit for your chosen doll, so we need early bookings to prepare for the class. Julie Butt is an expert when it comes to hand work. Attached is her placemat made using needleturn stitching. If you would like to learn this traditional technique you need to attend Julie’s Hand Appliqué class. We are taking names now, so give us a call or send an e-mail to join. Altogether patchwork, Carol & Cindy |
