Katipatch Catchup Issue 5 - 24th May 2006

Hello Patchworkers,

With the winter weather keeping us more indoors, it is a great opportunity to get more quilting done. We are always getting in new fabrics, some of which are sure to inspire you!

We are offering you a little project to keep you occupied during these wetter, darker days. For all of June and July we will be running a Mid-Winter Nifty Fifty project. For the cost of one fat-quarter ($6.25) you can enter and make anything you like so long as it isn’t any larger than 50cm x 50cm. All entries must be received by Wed 26th July and will be displayed on Friday 28th in the schoolroom. The winner will be selected by viewers’ choice and will receive a $50 prize.

We are selling kits for our Butterfly Bag (see attached picture) which is two bags in one! The kits come in three colourways with everything included except vliesofix and threads, and cost $45 each. All three have cream on one side with a different coloured butterfly, band and alternate side. The other two colours are burnt orange and lavender. What a great gift these bags would make. Just let us know if you would like to see the other colourways and we will e-mail it to you.

We are now half way to Christmas – you really needed to know that! But we are helping you to be prepared by offering classes for different Christmas projects every month till November. First up will be a Christmas wallhanging called Piece on Earth (see attached picture). This class will run from 9.30am – 11.30am for three weeks beginning on Thursday 15th June. Call us on (07) 549 5900 or send an e-mail info@katipatch.co.nz  to register for this or any other class.

Machine Applique is always a popular class and Carol will be teaching four different techniques in this class beginning on Thursday 15th June at 1pm – 3pm over four weeks.

Tricia Dunning is teaching her Snippets one day workshop on Monday 26th June 9.30am – 3.30pm. This gorgeous little wallhanging is so effective, and very simple to do. Let us know if you would like to see a photo and we will e-mail it.

Some dates to mark down in your diaries now. Our Coffee & Cream Challenge ends on the 20th September and all entries will be displayed in the schoolroom from Tuesday 26th September to Sun 1st October. At the same time, we will be having an inaugural “Hanging of the Quilts” in conjunction with the Katikati Open Air Arts Festival. We hope to draw large crowds to view the exhibition, so keep those needles working on your challenge entries. For those of you who haven’t yet registered, check out the rules on our website  www.katipatch.co.nz and get your entry underway.

On Saturday February 17th 2007 we are running a Trash and Treasure day where you can sell any books, magazines, fabric etc that you no longer want. We know that we all collect things which, occasionally for us, reach their use-by-date, however they are often the perfect item for someone else, so this is a way of recycling; bear this in mind over the next few months. There will be a reminder again closer to the day.

We really enjoy seeing the projects being stitched by the ladies at our Friday Friends. Each week we get to see something new or fully completed. If you would like to join us, please come along anytime between 9am and 4pm on a Friday with whatever you are working on (it doesn’t have to be patchwork!)

Newsflash!!! On this Friday 26th May sales of all fat quarters to Friday Friends will be less 20%

Altogether patchwork,

Carol & Cindy
