Katipatch Catchup Issue 6 - 14th June 2006
Dear Patchworkers,
World Cup fever has hit some households, so it’s a great opportunity for all you football widows to get lots of sewing done, and depending on how fanatical your man is, you may even be able to increase your stash without so much as a murmur.
We have got lots of new Christmas fabrics trickling into the shop, and just to get you into the mood (if the cold snap hasn’t already done it!) we have set up a display of Christmas projects which is really inspirational, some of which we will be running classes for over the next few months. Do call in to see us and start planning!
Classes to look forward to:
Carol’s Machine Appliqué class begins on Thursday 22nd June (that’s next week). 2hrs each week 1pm – 3pm for four weeks covers four different types of appliqué giving you the ability to choose the best method for each future project.
Tricia Dunning is teaching her Snippets one day workshop on Monday 26th June 9.30am – 3.30pm. This gorgeous little wallhanging is so effective, and very simple to do. See the photo attached.
Progression (to Simplicity) - see the attached photo. In an exercise in colour and imagination Barbara will help you take the image of a flower and project it through ‘stylized’ to ‘abstract’ to ‘pure form’. A great way to move into contemporary patchwork in a one day workshop. Call us on 07 549 5900 or e-mail us at info@katipatch.co.nz to register for this or any classes.
Friday 30th June is fat quarter Friday for our Friends when there will be a 20% discount. For those of you who are new to our database, on Fridays we have an open day in the schoolroom next to the shop where you can get some of those UFOs completed, maybe learn something new from others in the group and possibly get inspired, all while you catch up with friends. The doors open at 9am and close at 4.00pm for you to come and go as you please at a cost of $5 for the day. Tea & coffee are freely available; the Carvery café has a wonderful lunch menu at a very reasonable price, or bring your own.
On Friday the 14th July Create with Cottons will be a demonstration of Madeira threads for all our Friday Friends. Come along and see what masteries Dianne can create on a standard domestic sewing machine.
A store-bought blanket warms the body; a handmade quilt warms the soul.
Altogether patchwork,
Carol & Cindy |
