About Us > Katipatch Catchup > Issue 8 Dear Patchworkers, We really appreciate getting comments from ladies when they come into the shop, telling us how much they enjoy receiving our Catchup, or bemoaning the fact that they haven’t received one lately! Our decision to only send them out randomly was mainly because we didn’t want to fill up your inbox with mindless rambling, but when we had something worthwhile telling. People also ask us for a list of classes which we don’t have, as it would be changing constantly. We try to offer what you want and when it suits you best, so the best way to communicate that is by e-mail or our website. However, people who don’t have this technology don’t miss out! Once they tell us what their interest is, we get in contact by phone. As well, if they’re in the shop or here for Friday Friends we’re more than happy to talk about what’s coming up. By the same token, if there is something you’ve seen somewhere, or heard about and would like to learn, let us know and we’ll see if we can find a tutor, or source the product. We aim to be your first port-of-call for patchwork and quilting. As an extension of stocking your needs for patchwork, we are very excited about now being authorized agents for Husqvarna Viking and Elna sewing machines. Cindy is the expert in this area and is only to happy to demonstrate the qualities of these machines, especially the features especially designed for quilters. If you would like to feel your way around on one or both of these, just ask. And just arrived is the Huskystar C20. This great little machine has all the stitches required for patchwork, fashion and home décor. An exclusive Swedish design, it has a built-in needle threader, one-step buttonhole and is normally priced at $949, but is on special at present for $799 only while stocks last. We now also stock Gutermann natural cotton sewing threads. These are 250m reels in 28 different colours, and are good value at $6.10. Wednesday 30th August is the date we have set for the Christmas Folded Star. This one-day class teaches you the one of the techniques of Jennie Raiment’s folded work which can be adapted for many other uses. $30 class fee secures your place in the class. Friday Friends Fun Day 1st Sept - our Friends will learn to make the cute reindeer we have had on display in the shop. Everyone chuckles when they see him. Bring along your Christmas fabric scraps and we will have a small kit of accessories available to purchase if required. The Gollies and Dollies class is very popular and this time Carol is adding the adorable Raggedy Ann & Andy to your choice of dolls to make in this one-day class on Monday 4th September. Payment of $50 secures your place, and this includes lunch and a kit for your selected doll. On Tues 5th Sept we are offering the Christmas Wreath Wallhanging with Tricia Dunning using the snippets technique as taught by Cindy Walters (see attached photo). This class runs from 9.30am – 1pm and as usual you will receive the requirement list upon payment of the $30 fee. Carol’s Christmas Table Runner (see attached photo) with 3 gorgeous Lone Star blocks will be run over 2 days one month apart with some homework in between. The dates are 12th September and 10th October. Class fee of $70 includes lunch on both days. This runner could be made in other colours for all-year-round use. Following on from the very popular Mystery & Mayhem night we are running this week (which is fully booked), we have been asked for a daytime mystery for those who don’t like to drive at night. Consequently, Mystery Quilt till you Wilt has been organized for Wed 18th Oct from 9.30am onwards. For $15 you will get morning tea, lunch and all your fabrics cut for you. Get in quick as we have to limit numbers! We are organizing a Katipatch Retreat at Ika Lodge, Turangi with Diane Fussell on 28th and 29th October. Diane will be teaching fabric painting and free-motion embellishment. This is limited to 10 people, so let us know ASAP if you would like to attend this weekend. The winner of our Nifty Fifty challenge was Jeanie Poole with her gorgeous Japanese-influenced wallhanging. See the attached photo. Well done, Jeanie! We are promoting Quilter’s Quotas as a more user-friendly way than Fat ¼’s to buy small amounts of fabric. We would like to reduce our stock of Fat Quarters, so 25th August will be Fat Quarter Friday with a 20% discount on any bought that day. Don’t forget to check out our Suitcase Specials when you come into the shop because you’ll find some good bargains in there as well. If you can stay calm while all around you is chaos, then you probably haven’t completely understood the seriousness of the situation. Altogether patchwork Carol & Cindy |
